Welcome to Responsible Policies for Animals' website! This Just In! RPA's Anti-Speciesism Petition to Official Species-Naming Group Dear Friend, Soon after starting its work showing influential people how to establish responsible policies for animals that are also responsible policies for people and ecosystems - basic legal rights for all sentient beings - RPA began making available online much of its animal rights & campaign literature. I hope this responsive, easy-to-use website will provide information you can use to promote basic legal rights for nonhuman animals. Among the useful tools you'll find here:
I founded RPA to meet challenges not addressed by others. Results to date and nearly two decades of full-time work in animal advocacy tell me RPA is on the right track! I think you'll agree when you visit the Animal Rights, Campaigns, and News pages of this site! I am proud of what RPA has accomplished in just a few years with steady support from a small but significant number of concerned, dedicated, knowledgeable people. With no paid staff, low overhead, and frugal, non-sensational methods, RPA has made progress without making fundraising a top priority. But everything costs money - even switching on the computer to write these paragraphs. So I hope you will consider becoming an RPA member and tell friends about RPA. By supporting and taking part in the work you read about here and in RPA's newsletter Thin Ice, you can help RPA do "the impossible": create fundamental change in the way human beings relate to other animals. We are glad to help you tailor participation to your busy schedule and your personal preferences - and many RPA members who lack time to do more are pleased to help financially. If you are among our welcome visitors who oppose or feel uncomfortable with animal rights, remember: A majority of Americans surveyed find "too radical" the content of the First Amendment to the Constitution of the United States. Just as the Bill of Rights protects those who might reject it if asked, the rights nonhuman animals need in order to experience meaningful protection will also serve the public interest and enhance people's wellbeing for generations to come. Naturally, most people find that hard to understand: Government, schools, and the publishing-entertainment-news industry routinely fail to explain animal rights accurately & completely. Advancing animal rights is a tough nut to crack! It can't be done overnight, but unless we persevere, prospects for happy and rewarding human lives will steadily worsen and humane treatment of the other animals will recede even further into the realm of fantasy. I've had the privilege of living a long, comfortable, rewarding life among wonderful people, experiencing little of the oppression that diminishes most other lives and causes so much suffering. There must be a way life can be good for everyone. I hope you will see that animal rights is more likely than any other way. Thank you for visiting, and I hope to hear from you soon. Best wishes, David
Cantor Revised January 2007 "As
a long-time business financial manager,
I know many things companies can
do to help animals won't hurt the
bottom line - and many will improve
it. Of course, businesses should
not support the animal food industries;
they should help society move to
a healthful, humane, ecologically
sound diet." "Having
worked for several diverse charities,
and having rescued many animals,
I think preventing animal suffering
should be a priority in all decision
making. It has more to offer humanity
than any other effort we can undertake." "I've
been a veterinarian for many years,
and I also run an animal sanctuary.
I believe people, ecosystems - and
of course animals - will benefit
in big ways when people no longer
treat animals as property or resources
to be exploited." Donations
