Time To Cut Classes, Not More Animals' Throats:
Our Land-Grant University "Animal Science" Problem

Created to serve agriculture and the common good, our colleges of agriculture at our land-grant universities (LGUs) instead serve big agribusiness, especially the flesh, milk & egg industries -- betraying the small crop-growers they were supposed to protect and corrupting education with conflict of interest.

This inflicts unjustifiable suffering on exploited & free-living animals, promotes poor human health, destroys ecosystems, wastes water, oil, topsoil & other crucial resources, and forces all of us to pay high medical, insurance, regulation, and environmental clean-up costs.

The flesh, milk & egg industries are extremely harmful private vested interests with no legitimate public purpose. They should meet their needs at their own expense as long as they are permitted to operate.

By giving enormous benefits to those industries, our LGU "animal science" programs do enormous harm to the public - at taxpayers' and tuition-payer' expense. Our LGUs' service to the flesh, milk & egg industries includes …

  • training thousands of workers & managers each year
  • developing methods that boost profits and hurt nonhuman animals & people
  • promoting notions that flesh, milk & egg consumption by humans is science-based & healthful
  • promoting ideologies and social fictions that function as industry propaganda
  • serving, selling, and promoting flesh, milk & eggs on campus and beyond
  • alliances with our government favoring the flesh, milk & egg industries over the common good
  • publications promoting student, faculty, and alumni service to the industries, and
  • millions of LGU alumni promoting flesh, milk & eggs from influential positions in society

Here is how "animal science" serves up animals to everyone's detriment:

tax & tuition dollars / flesh, milk & egg industry dollars / industry & government influence / LGU regents, alumni, administrators, associations, faculty, students, facilities, publications

LGU "animal science" programs

flesh, milk & egg industry workers, managers, executives, methods, systems / minimum industry expenses, maximum profits / billions of industry dollars available for ads & P.R.

artificially low flesh, milk & egg prices / artificially high demand for flesh, milk & eggs due to low prices & public confusion from ads, P.R. & mis-education by LGUs & other institutions

rampant animal exploitation, ecosystem destruction, resource waste, misery, and widespread misconceptions that all of this is natural, necessary, and science-based

Responsible Policies for Animals' 10,000 Years Is Enough campaign is the first-ever nationwide effort to eliminate "animal science" programs. RPA protests at LGU events and has sent hundreds of letters and factsheets and many books to LGU administrators in all 50 states, government officials, news writers, and others who can help end these destructive programs.
