As part of the 10,000 Years Is Enough campaign to get our universities out of the inhumane, climate-changing, polluting, health-destroying meat industry, Responsible Policies sent this letter to the governors of all 50 states, enclosing RPA Factsheet #1 (10,000 Years Is Enough: Time To Drop Meat-Industry Courses) and Get Our Universities Out of the Meat Industry: March 11, 2009 The Honorable

Cornell University's and our other land-grant universities' (LGUs') meat-industry courses drive soaring medical & insurance costs, poor nutrition, water and topsoil loss and contamination, global warming, influenza-pandemic threats, war, oppression, and poverty. Inestimable billions of dollars' worth of training, research, and public relations our LGUs give the meat, dairy, egg, fish, and feed-crop industries lock us into an unhealthful, globally disastrous diet. Billions of pills for chronic disease and billions of gallons of farmed-animal feces stinking up the landscape are unnecessary like the annual slaughter of billions of animals for private gain. Many of our LGUs have responded to the extensive information we have sent them these past six years, summarized in the enclosed factsheets. None has refuted what we say. Yet no LGU has agreed to stop promoting our most destructive industries. As Governor of New York, you can
It is hard to provide for the general welfare and common defense with our most influential institutions working against us. I hope you will help solve the far-reaching "animal science" problem. The enclosed factsheets provide excellent background. I hope you will let me know your thoughts. Thank you for your consideration. Sincerely, David
